About Bee Flies:

Bombyliidae flies are fast, adept fliers and can maneuver with great skill. They are also efficient pollinators too, visiting flowers frequently and sometimes pollinating even more than bees!

Bee flies are among the many fly species that imitate bees, which is how they received their common and scientific names. Similar to bumblebees, bee flies are brown, furry, and make buzzing sounds when in flight. Black and yellow stripes on insects like bee flies often indicate one of two things: either the insect is equipped with a toxic bite or sting, or the insect tastes unpleasant when consumed by a predator. Bee flies, along with hover flies, are among the best bee and wasp mimics clad in yellow and black stripes!
